I am Srikar from Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India and I am currently pursuing PhD studies in the area of Location-aware Communication. But my bonding with Chalmers starts not with my PhD; we will have to go back a few years, to the point where my life journey with Chalmers began, in September 2007. That´s when I started my Master’s studies in Communication Engineering.
Journey to Sweden…How it started?
I have to mention someone who inspired me to pursue Master’s studies at Chalmers. He is none other than my Team Leader in the company where I worked in Bangalore for 2 years after my Bachelor’s degree. I am very thankful to him for introducing me to a new world of opportunities. Before I came to Sweden, I had no clue as to where this country was on the map. Those in India who dream of pursuing Master’s studies, most often think of USA, UK or Australia. When I applied for the Master’s program at Chalmers, I faced many questions from my family and friends. Firstly, how is the curriculum? Will you be able to get job opportunities after completing? And so on…Today, I am able to answer the questions proudly, as I made a very good decision in choosing Chalmers University.
Being at Chalmers…
I found the curriculum very comfortable and had the opportunity to take research courses. The courses were designed more practically and the thesis has further enhanced my knowledge. In Chalmers, students have the opportunity to pursue industrial thesis which helps to form a strong base for job prospects. The faculties are very supportive and highly knowledgeable. I have seen that the professors are more friendly and approachable. They like to spend time with students and are always ready to clarify any subject related questions that the students might have.
Secondly, I was concerned about the climate and health issues, as I was born and brought up in a relatively hot climate. But I am glad to say that I am living in a pollution free country and never suffered from any sort of sickness after coming to Sweden. By joining Chalmers I was able to meet people from various parts of the world and learn different cultures. Talking about the Swedish people - I have to say that they are very friendly and always wear a smile on their face. They are peace loving people.
Back to Sweden with new aspirations…
Finally, the time had come to say “Hej då” to Gothenburg and pack up my things to Bangalore, India where I started to work with ST-Ericsson in 2009, in the R&D Department. My work was more into research and I am always curious to learn new things.
So, after working again for 2 years I chose go back to Sweden, to pursue PhD studies at Chalmers, where I have the opportunity to do research in the area of my work. I feel that Chalmers is the best place to improve the research skills as well as to build up a bright career.
