Our summer courses for 2020

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chalmers University of Technology is offering single-subject courses that are going to be conducted online this summer. 

Make sure to submit your application for the summer courses at antagning.se before the application deadline to receive notification of selection result before the courses begin. Please note that the courses may be open for registration for a longer or shorter period than specified, depending on available study seats. We may offer more summer courses than the ones listed below further on, make sure to keep yourself updated on this page. 

No tuition fee is required for EU / EEA citizens. For others, find more information on our Tuition and course fees page.

Chalmers has also opened several of its massive open online courses, so-called MOOCs, to enable skills development for even more students. The courses are free and open to everyone. You can find more information about Chalmers MOOCs here.​

Summer courses in English

Building physics, advanced course (Byggnadsfysik, fortsättningskurs) – 7,5 credits
This course will give you a unique overview of future climate change and its impact on buildings' energy performance and moisture safety. Learn more about passive techniques for designing low-energy houses with high comfort and good durability including heat storage and moisture buffering in buildings in real-life situations, ground as natural heat storage, natural ventilation and more:

Study period: 2/7–20/8
Entry requirements: Entry requirements at the advanced level, corresponding to the Bachelor's degree or engineering diploma in Civil Engineering, BSc degree in Architectural Engineering.
Specific entry requirements: Basic course in building physics and building services, or similar. Knowledge of transient heat and mass transfer in porous media is desirable

Structural concrete (Armerad och förspänd betong)  7,5 credits
The course completes the basic knowledge of plain and reinforced concrete structures. The main aim is to promote the development of the ability to analyse and design reinforced concrete slabs, plates and discontinuity regions, and structural members of prestressed concrete.

Study period: 29/6–14/8
Entry requirements: General entry requirements for master's level (second cycle or graduate) 
Specific entry requirements: English language proficiency + bachelor's degree within civil/ civil and environmental engineering + Good understanding of the behaviour of reinforced concrete beams and columns, and ability to design and analyze such structural members, for instance through the courses Structures and Structural Engineering. Basic knowledge about the finite element (FE) method is required, for instance through the course Finite element methods – basics or through practice use of FE-program.

Project management in construction (Projektledning inom byggsektorn) – 7,5 credits
The course addresses, from a sustainable, ethical and social perspective, the complexity and variety of project forms and roles as project managers found in the construction sector. This course will give you an introduction to project management, what it involves in the modern construction project, and its development. 


Course period: 22/6-20/8
Entry requirements: General entry requirements for master's level (second cycle or graduate) + English 6
Please note: Applicants that have previously passed BOM017 project management or ACE115 Project management in construction should be informed that the content of this course and BOM 017 and ACE 115  are largely overlapping. Participants that have passed this summer course is advised not to participate in  ACE115 Project management in construction because of large overlaps.​

Real estate finance (Fastighetsekonomi) – 7,5 credits
This course will give you a fundamental understanding of real estate finance and economics and management. Learn about basic concepts and tools with real estate economics and management and how to place them in a design and construction management context.

Course period: 22/6-20/8
Entry requirements: General entry requirements for master's level (second cycle or graduate) + English 6
Please note: Applicants that have previously passed BOM135 Real Estate Finance and Economics should be informed that the content of this course and BOM 135 are largely overlapping. Similarly, participants that have passed this summer course should be counselled not to participate in the course  ACE125 Real Estate Economics because of the overlaps.

Additive manufacturing (Additiv tillverkning) – 5 credits
In this course, you will gain a basic understanding regarding additive manufacturing (AM) as the industrial method for prototyping and manufacture of advanced parts. The course provides an overview of techniques for metal, polymer/composite and ceramic with their limitations and possibilities.
