The Swedish higher education credits system
The Swedish credit system högskolepoäng (hp) is based on the ECTS, whereas one week of full-time studies (40 hours, lectures and self studies included) represent 1.5 hp, and one year of studies represent 60 hp.
Thus, to satisfy a requirement of 30 cr in Mathematics, for example; the courses you have taken within the specific course requirements field need to be equivalent to 30 cr when Chalmers admissions convert the credits for relevant courses listed in your transcript (and syllabus).
Chalmers admissions is fully aware that all countries
and universities do not have the same education systems, and this is taken into
consideration in the assessment of applications.
In your application to Chalmers you do not submit any conversion or translation, this assessment is done by Chalmers admissions.
Compare your credit system to Swedish higher education credits
If you need help
comparing the credits of
your education system for the purpose of estimating if you do fulfill the required number of credits, it might be helpful to use the following examples.
If 20 credits (your university’s credits) is equal to 1 semester at your university and the course in your transcript is 4 credits and the specific course requirement at Chalmers is 6cr use the formula 30/20 x 4 = 6 cr = OK!
If 20 credits (your university’s credits) is equal to 1 semester at your university and the course in your transcript is 3 credits and the specific course requirement at Chalmers is 6 cr use the formula 30/20 x 3 = 4.5 cr = NOT OK!
