Postponed or deferred enrolment

Your offer of admission is only valid up until the last day to complete the mandatory on-line registration of your new programme. This requires a Swedish personal (civic) number or a valid student account at Chalmers. Neglecting to complete the mandatory on-line registration on time means your admission will be forfeit.

Declining your offer

Postponed mandatory on-line registration (enrolment)

Students with a Swedish personal (civic) number will not be granted postponement of the mandatory on-line registration.
The first condition for being granted a postponement of the mandatory on-line registration is the lack of a Swedish personal (civic) number.  The second condition is the reason for not being able to attend the day the student's account are registered and delivered to those present. The reason must be serious circumstances of which you can account for and have proof of.
Postponed enrolment cannot be granted for a longer period than a maximum of 12 days. Until what date it may be granted until is dependent upon if it is a Bachelor's or Master's programme. A postponement for a Bachelor's programme will be granted up until the last day of the mandatory on-line registration, usually two weeks prior to the start of the semester. A postponements for a Master's programme (advanced level) is never extended beyond the Friday of the second week of the first semester.
How to apply
The application must be submitted to Chalmers admissions as soon as possible after the reason has occurred.
An applications received after the last date to complete the mandatory on-line registration of your new programme will be considered invalid.
A decision cannot be granted retroactively.
  • Specify the subject "Application for a postponed enrolment / mandatory on line registration".
  • State the reason.
  • Include your personal data (date of birth YYMMDD, name and the application number from your account at universityadmissions.se).
  • Send by e-mail to admissions@chalmers.se
A decisions will be sent to you by e-mail. All instructions regarding when, where and how to register will be included in the decision. Postponed enrolment can only be granted by and is only valid when confirmed by Chalmers admissions.

Deferment of studies to the next academic year

Under certain circumstances it is possible to defer the start of your studies to the start of the next academic year.
Take note, invalid reasons are reasons concerning housing/accommodation or your current economic situation, including not being granted a scholarship etc.
If you have a valid reason you may apply by doing the following;
  • Specify the subject "Deferment of studies to the next academic year"
  • State the reason and attach any relevant documentation, such as certificates.
  • Include your personal data (date of birth YYMMDD, name and the application number from your account at universityadmissions.se).
  • Send by e-mail to admissions@chalmers.se
A decisions will be sent to you by e-mail.
An applications received after the last date to complete the mandatory on-line registration of your new programme will be considered invalid.  A decision cannot be granted retroactively
