Postponed or deferred enrolment

Your offer of admission is only valid up until the first day of the first semester of your new programme. You must submit your online registration no later than that day. This requires a Swedish personal (civic) number or a valid student account at Chalmers. Neglecting to complete the mandatory online registration on time means your admission will be forfeit.

Declining your offer

Postponed enrolment / mandatory online registration

Students with a Swedish personal (civic) number will not be granted postponement of the mandatory online registration.
The first condition for being granted a postponement of the mandatory online registration by Chalmers admissions is the lack of a Swedish personal (civic) numberThe second condition is the presence of serious circumstances beyond the control of the student.
Postponed enrolment cannot be granted for a longer period than a maximum of 12 days. It is never extended beyond the Friday of the second week of the first semester. Postponed enrolment can only be granted by and is only valid when confirmed by Chalmers Admissions.
How to apply
The application must be submitted to Chalmers admissions as soon as possible after the reason has occurred. An applications received after the first day of the first semester of your new programme will be considered invalid. A decision cannot be granted retroactively.
  • Specify the subject "Application for a postponed enrolment / mandatory on line registration".
  • State the reason.
  • Include your personal data (date of birth YYMMDD, name and the application number from your account at universityadmissions.se).
  • Send by e-mail to admissions@chalmers.se
A decisions will be sent to you by e-mail. All instructions regarding when, where and how to register will be included in the decision.

Deferment of studies to the next academic year

Under certain circumstances it is possible to defer the start of your studies to the next academic year.
Invalid reasons are reasons concerning housing/accommodation or your current economic situation, including not being granted a scholarship etc.
How to apply
  • Specify the subject "Deferment of studies to the next academic year"
  • State the reason and attach any relevant documentation, such as certificates.
  • Include your personal data (date of birth YYMMDD, name and the application number from your account at universityadmissions.se).
  • Send by e-mail to admissions@chalmers.se
A decisions will be sent to you by e-mail.
Applications received after the first day of the first semester of your new programme  will be considered late and will not be processed. A decision cannot be granted retroactively.
