Optical injection locking for phase sensitive amplifiers
For phase-sensitive parametric amplifiers to operate in communication links (fiber or free-space), it isessential that the phase of the involved optical waves can be controlled. One very promising technique to help enable this, is an approach to re-generate a pump wave that tracks the original pump wave relying on so-called injection locking.
This project aims to analyze the capability of injection-locking with very low optical input powers (nW) and with the use of EDFA preamplifiers. One interesting application that this can enable is ultrahigh sensitivity receivers for very long-haul free-space optical transmission, such as to the moon and beyond. This project is mostly experimental.
