The only way to significantly increase spectral efficiency and/or sensitivity is to use higher order (multilevel) modulation formats in higher dimensional space. The project aims at exploring a special class of such formats based on regular structures (lattices) in 8, 16 and 24 dimensional space via numerical simulations. Aspects like development of phase- and polarization tracking schemes for these formats as well as performance simulations are in focus for this project.
