Dates
3-4 December 2007
Venue
Fraunhofer-Chalmers Research Centre for Industrial Mathematics (FCC), Gothenburg, Sweden
About the workshop
The subject of this workshop is robust optimal design where simulation is an important part of the design evaluation, and where there may be more than one objective function. The workshop aims to gather people from different fields, primarily from the Nordic countries, within academia and industry to discuss the state-of-the-art and future challenges in solving these problems. We hope that stimulating discussions across subject boundaries will enrich us all.
The talks will be given in English. The workshop is organized and partly sponsored by GMMC (Gothenburg Mathematical Modelling Centre) which is a research centre placed at the Department of Mathematical Sciences (Chalmers and Göteborg University) and FCC; it is a strategic research centre funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF).
Plenary speakers and their topics
- Prof. John Bandler, McMaster University, Toronto, Canada: "Why engineering design through space mapping works: An engineer's interpretation"
- Prof. Bo Bergman, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden: "On the relationships between a continuous improvement perspective and an optimisation perspective"
- Dr. Olof Dahlberg, CD-adapco, Seattle, WA, USA: "Organizational and technical challenges to cut costs and time in the development process through design and robustness optimization with simulations".
- Prof. Anders Klarbring, Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden: "Topology optimization in flow problems"
- PD Dr. habil Karl-Heinz Küfer, ITWM, Kaiserslautern, Germany: "Interactive decision support for industrial processes"
- Dr. Per Weinerfelt, SAAB, Linköping, Sweden: "Optimisation using PDE and Adjoint Technique Applied to Industrial problems"
Plenary talks are scheduled to 45 minutes each, including Q&A. We invite all other participants to present regular talks of 30 minutes, including Q&A. To apply, please send an abstract of maximum 150 words to the e-mail address opt.info@fcc.chalmers.se at the latest on 12 October. Participants who are selected to give contributed talks will be offered a 20% reduction in the registration fee.
