The aim of the Gothenburg Mathematical Modelling Centre (GMMC) is to meet three main challenges:
- The emergence of mathematics and mathematical statistics as key technologies;
- Today's channels for cooperation between industry, society, industrial research institutes and universities are simply too slow for the needs of our future society;
- Access to cutting edge research and development requires extensive international networking and the ability to reciprocate in kind.
GMMC combines four components: The Gothenburg Stochastic Centre, new and existing applied mathematics research teams, researchers from the division of quality science, and the Fraunhofer-Chalmers Research Centre for Industrial Mathematics (FCC).
Starting in 2006, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) is funding GMMC as a new Strategic Research Centre in mathematical modelling. The centre is also supported by Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University.
