The department of Industrial and Materials Science is one of thirteen departments at Chalmers. The department was formed by a merger of the department of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and Product and Production Development departments as well as the division of Materials and Computational Mechanics in connection with Chalmers reorganization 2017. The department is led by the Head of department, and is made up of research groups in six divisions.

Our Prioritised Operational Development is based on Chalmers vision and strategy as well as Chalmers' Prioritised Operational Development.
Research and education are conducted in close cooperation with industry. The department is also a major player within Chalmers Areas of Advance. The department provides courses for Chalmers Undergraduate programmes and Master’s programmes, as well as offering Doctoral studies in 5 graduate schools.
