Inauguration lecture, Ritwik Majumder

Welcome to a lecture for the position adjunct docent at the Department of Electrical Engineering, held by Ritwik Majumder.

Microgrids: Opportunities and Challenges

A microgrid is a localized grouping of electricity generation, energy storage, and loads that normally operates connected to a traditional grid /power distribution grid, via a point of common coupling (PCC). Microgrids are part of an infrastructure aiming at producing electrical power locally from many small energy sources. The integration of renewables with variable power production, use of economical energy storage for supporting various grid functions, application of power electronics for advanced control and requirements from sensitive loads pose several operational challenges to a microgrid.
This presentation will portray few of the challenges in microgrid and available solutions. Some of the research topics in this field will be discussed.
