Higher Ambition CEO Summit 2019

The Higher Ambition CEO Summit 2019 will be held in Dublin, Ireland October 3-4 2019, hosted and arranged by The Center for Higher Ambition Europe together with the Irish Management Institute.

The theme for the conference is “Shifting Frames: Developing the Next Generation of Business and Management” and we are glad to welcome Mark Bonchek from Shift Thinking and Singularity University, as one of our keynote speakers. Mark is a leading thinker and advisor on the new forms of organizing, leading and conducting business in a digitalized world, with a focus on the possibilities for creating exponential growth.

As keynote speaker the second day, we are happy to present Dr. Frank Piller, professor of technology and innovation management at RWTH Aachen, one of Europe’s leading institutes of technology. Frank Piller is regarded as one of the leading experts on strategies for customer-centric value creation, like mass customization, personalization, and innovation co-creation. His current research focuses on the need of established corporations to deal with disruptive business model innovations and supporting organizational structures and cultures.

Higher Ambition organizations aim for a higher purpose and operate in ways that allow them to be more profitable than their peers, engage their employees, and contribute to a better world. They also push the boundaries by taking on entrepreneurial challenges which go beyond their competitors’ activities. Higher Ambition leadership is the art of creating and leading these organizations.

For this year’s CEO summit, we are more actively seeking a mix between large industry incumbents and entrepreneurial firms with an ambitious growth agenda. Invitations to the CEO-summit are on recommendations.

The CEO-summit also includes Case clinics, workshop discussions based on the participants’ own challenges, blended with input from leading thinkers. We want the participants to leave the summit both with new insights, support of a network of likeminded peers, and with tools for how to create social and economic value.

About our CEO-summits

Center for Higher Ambition Leadership organize a European CEO summit every year. We make these CEO summits intimate with 15-25 CEOs selected out of their ability to create both economic and social value. Earlier participants have for example included Leif Johansson (AstraZeneca/Ericsson/Volvo), Magdalena Gerger (Systembolaget), Mattias Perjos (Getinge), Lotta Lyrå (Clad Ohlson) and Anders Dahlvig (IKEA).

The CEO Summit provides an opportunity to connect and reflect with other purpose and values driven senior leaders on what it actually takes to sustainably deliver superior economic performance and positive social impact. An insightful and diverse group of speakers will help spark the discussion.
The meeting will base on workshops based on participants’ own challenges, blended with input from leading thinkers (this year Mark Boncheck and Frank Piller) on how to create, transform, lead and organize companies with higher ambitions. We want the participants to leave the summit both with new insights, support of a network of likeminded peers, and with tools for how to create social and economic value.

Case clinics

A substantial part of the Center for Higher Ambition CEO-summit is built on case clinics. These clinics are collaborative sessions in break-out-groups where you share your experiences, challenges and situations, in a group with CEO:s and one facilitator from the CHLE team.

To make these clinics as useful as possible everyone prepares, (with support from the CHLE team), a case to be able to direct focus towards his or she’s most pressing issues.

To support the reflection, a template of four questions will be sent out a couple of weeks before the Conference, for the CEO to reflect upon. Every group member will have approximately 20 minutes to present his/her case and then get feedback from the others.

What is Higher Ambition Leadership?

Higher Ambition organizations aim for a higher purpose and operate in ways that allow them to be more profitable than their peers, engage their employees, and contribute to a better world. They also push the boundaries by taking on entrepreneurial challenges which go beyond their competitors’ activities. Higher Ambition leadership is the art of creating and leading these organizations.

Trusted and engaging companies are more innovative, have fewer quality issues, and attract the best employees. They have a Higher Ambition – a purpose and a business model that involves creating value together with stakeholders. This enables them to take on goals far beyond benchmarks, and be more entrepreneurial in getting there. Higher Ambition leadership is the art of leading these organizations. Not surprisingly, a higher ambition model is superior for financial success.

The Center for Higher Ambition Leadership was created by leading CEOs and academics to enable the sharing and developing of higher ambition capabilities and practices.

Center for Higher Ambition Leadership Europe

The Center for Higher Ambition Leadership is a CEO led community created to help purposeful leaders build high performing companies and a better world. Its partners and faculty develop and share practices to achieve and raise their higher ambitions.

A few years back, Tobias Fredberg and Flemming Norrgren, professors at Chalmers University of Technology and three colleagues wrote a book called “Higher Ambition: How Great Leaders Create Economic and Social Value” where they interviewed CEOs around the world who managed to create lasting value for multiple stakeholders. One of the five authors was, Michael Beer, professor at Harvard Business School. Among the interviewees were for example Douglas Conant of Campbell Soups, Brian Walker of Herman Miller, Anders Dahlvig of IKEA and Marjorie Scardino of Pearson Publishing.
Based on the discussions following the launch of the book, they formed the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership in Boston in 2012 as a non-profit (higherambition.org), and the European center in 2015 as a part of Chalmers University. Together the centers have about 50 partner organizations.

The Center is an industry-academia initiative that we formed together with a set of CEOs a few years ago. The purpose is to develop and share knowledge on management that creates high and sustainable value for employees, customers, society and shareholders. We notice that organizations that aim for a higher purpose often are able to push the boundaries by taking on entrepreneurial challenges which go beyond their competitors’ activities. What we try to understand and develop are the practices of creating and leading these organizations.

The CHL Europe is placed at Chalmers University. CHL US is organized as a non-profit.
