Stage 3

Research Program and Summary of Results

Virtual product and production development is a crucial enabler for future industrial competitiveness, growth and sustainable production. The ability to develop and verify complex assembled products and their production systems, without physical prototypes or testing, cuts development time and cost and contributes to less use of resources and better working conditions.

Research was in Stage 3 carried out in three multi-disciplinary themes (Platformed-based Development, Smart Assembly and Perceived Quality), and was a way to open up for wider collaboration, enhance marketing of the centre and its results, and thereby improve the implementation of results in new companies and business areas. The strategy has been successful since the output from the centre has increased since Stage 2.

Results Stage 3

The strategy has been successful since the output from the centre has increased since Stage 2. The three research themes have so far (in 2 out of 3 years in Stage 3) generated:

  • 90 conference publications
  • 28 journal publications
  • 10 PhD/Lic Theses
  • 16 industrial implementations

Platform-based Development

Research realization

The research (during Stage 2 and 3) were carried out in close cooperation with Volvo Car Corporation, Volvo Group Trucks Technology, GKN Aerospace, ABB and Rosemount Tank Radar and also involves people from these companies. Case studies were carried out based on problems from the industrial partners.

Implementations

The following results have been evaluated (E) or implemented (I) in Stage 3, see below:

Smart Assembly

Research realization

The research (during Stage 2 and 3) were carried out in close cooperation with Volco Car Corporation, Volvo Group Trucks Technology, GKN Aerospace, ABB, Scania, Atlas Copco, RD&T Technology and Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre and involves people from these partners. Case studies were carried out based on problems from the industrial partners.

Implementations

The following results have been evaluated (E) or implemented (I) in Stage 3, see below. In addition, 9 more evaluations (E) were performed during Stage 3.

Perceived Quality

Research realization

The research in Stage 2 and 3 were carried out in close cooperation with Volvo Car Corporation, Volvo Group Trucks Technology, RD&T Technology and Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre and involves people from these partners. Case studies were carried out based on problems from the industrial partners.

Implementations

The following results have been evaluated (E) or implemented (I) in Stage 3, see below.
