Transforming industry

One case of opportunities hidden in the additive manufacturing technology is offered from one of the industrial partners in the centre.

By switching to additive manufacturing the company, for one product, has managed to:

– decrease the number of components,
from 13 to 1
– eliminate welding
(the product used to need 18 welds)
– reduce the product weight from 4.5 to 3.6 kg
– drastically decrease manufacturing time,
from 20 to 3 weeks
– improve the product functionality.

CAM2 is one of the sponsors of the Chalmers Formula Student project. Competence development in the area of metal additive manufacturing in Sweden is a main focus for the centre. We asked the Formula student Bharat Mehta to answer some questions about the benefits of the CAM2 sponsorship.
