SåNätt - collaboration as enabler for light weight vehicles

Driven by the common goal of strengthening the competetiveness of Swedish industri through lightweight innovation.

Fuel consumption is the biggest contributor to a vehicle's environmental impact - and fuel consumption in itself is greatly affected by the weight of the vehicle. The hunt for every gram is therefore high on automotive corporate agenda.

SåNätt is a research project within the FFI-program where Volvo Cars, FKG, Innovatum and approximately 35 suppliers and academic partners have collaborated to develop systems for a virtual light weight Volvo V60. The target of the project has been to demonstrate the potential of the Swedish automotive cluster in collaborating to develop innovative concepts to reach a cost efficient weight savings of 20-40%.

Chalmers has contributed to the project by using product development methods, invented at the department of Product and Production Development. The project focused on seven system areas on the car and Chalmers participated in all of them, facilitating the project groups and acting as coach during the meetings.

Now the project has come to an end and the result will be presented as an exhibition.
