The Area of Advance Nanoscience and Nanotechnology coordinates research which stretches over several departments at Chalmers. The core research activities are focused on
nanophysics,
nanobiophysics and nanochemistry, and supported by first class nanofabrication and characterization facilities. We are closely interacting with activities within Chalmers’ Areas of Advance Materials Science, Energy, and Information & Communication Technology.
Nanoscience at Chalmers spans the entire spectrum of analysis, modeling, measurement methods, characterization, synthesis and processing. The existing infrastructure, which includes the nanofabrication laboratory and the material analysis laboratory, provides excellent resources for these activities. Nanotechnology is a field of high potential for revitalization of the research agenda, as well as finding fast mechanisms of transferring new knowledge to early adopters in industry.
Our vision is to combine research excellence and engineering advances in nanoscience and nanotechnology to solve societal challenges. Our goal is to further strengthen Chalmers’ position as the leading Swedish university in the area and establish ourselves as a premiere European nano-centre. We will work with Swedish industry to create business opportunities based on nanotechnology and educate the key experts needed for the future.
