Big Data seminar - Apache Flink

Speaker: Camelia Elena Ciolac, Application Expert, Big Data@Chalmers initiative

Abstract: Apache Flink is an open source platform for distributed stream and batch data processing. In this Seminar we shall discuss Flink's APIs based on an application that I developed to process MEETUP data. MEETUP, an online social networking portal that facilitates in-person group meetings world-wide, is a very interesting data source on which we'll illustrate multiple types of analysis, both on batch and on streaming data. Using Flink's graph API, Gelly, we'll exemplify how to build and analyze the graph of this social network. Looking forward to Your presence at this Big Data Seminar!

Bio: Camelia Elena Ciolac is a Research Engineer (data analysis and data management expert) in the Big Data initiative at Chalmers, endeavoring to foster data-driven research in Chalmers' Areas of Advance. Camelia received her Master degree in Computer Science in 2010, researching query optimization in Oracle databases. She completed her PhD degree in 2011 in the subject of IT Governance, with a thesis that used innovative data analysis to discover patterns in banks' IT-related decisions. Since then she worked on various research and development projects, in some of them extending the core functionality of emerging Big Data processing systems, while in others developing data analysis piplines using a mix of frameworks in practical use cases.

This seminar is arranged by Chalmers e-Science Centre.
