Last year we went to Africa – this year we stay at home.

What challenges are Chalmers facing? How are we contributing to development? What investments are being made in Western Sweden? During the day, you will have the opportunity to hear more about exciting examples, experiences and results in sustainable development, where the starting point lies in the challenges we are facing in urban development, transport solutions on land and sea and new chemical technology based on renewable raw materials.
Is it necessary for new solutions to be in place in order for politicians to have the courage to make challenging decisions? Is it the case perhaps that courageous politicians are needed to ensure that new solutions are developed? What impact will the decision taken by Germany to be free of nuclear power by the year 2022 have on the development of new ideas and technology? Be inspired by German ambassador Harald Kindermann, who will talk about current developments in his home country, where on a sunny day solar cells already account for more than 40 per cent of power requirements.
Meet Pehr G Gyllenhammar, former Head of Volvo, who even in the early 1970s was very much involved in promoting a better environment and highlighting social issues. He realised how industry could contribute to innovation and active solutions as long as it had the support of the community.
One of the most important tasks at Chalmers is to contribute to the creation of a sustainable global society. However, if we are to make a real difference together with industry and the community we need to succeed in our own region. Listen to good examples, to the experiences of predecessors and be inspired by Chalmers researchers, students and faculty members – everyone who is working to ensure that Western Sweden can develop and become a laboratory for the world's new, sustainable solutions
Looking forward to seeing you!
