Purpose
The Rune Andersson Scholarship is managed by the Friends of Chalmers Foundation. Former students who hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from Chalmers may apply for the scholarship. To be eligible, you should have a few years of working experience.
The scholarship is intended to support people who want to raise their academic qualifications by interdisciplinary studies in Sweden or abroad in either of two ways:
- primarily law or economics, or
- any other discipline for which the applicant can show the value in a future career.
The Rune Andersson Scholarship Committee seeks applicants with excellent records from Chalmers who intend to study at one of the world’s outstanding universities.
The scholarship may cover the cost of tuition, additional living expenses, insurance, and travelling expenses, for example, as well as other costs related to your studies. The scholarship is limited to a maximum of 500 000 SEK. Please enclose an estimate of expenses with your application.
Studies in Sweden
The condition that the studies must be undertaken abroad is changed in the guidelines from 2011, according to wishes from the donor, Mr Rune Andersson. It is an opening for those who for family reasons or other reasons to seek out a university in Sweden. One can not receive the scholarship for studies at Chalmers.
Who can apply?
Alumnus of Chalmers with a
- Master’s degree from Chalmers
- Bachelor’s degree from Chalmers
Working Experience
You should have a few years of working experience after your Bachelor or Master’s degree.
Not employed by or funded by Chalmers
You may not have been employed by or received any kind of allowance from Chalmers during the present year or in the two previous years.
You are an ambassador for Chalmers
When studying abroad you, as a former student of Chalmers, are an ambassador for Chalmers University of Technology.

Important notes
No retroactive support
Please observe that Friends of Chalmers does not give support retroactively. Projects may begin no earlier than the date of application has been officially registered.
When do I receive my money?
Half of the scholarship award is paid after the Friends of Chalmers receive a copy of the letter of acceptance from the university chosen; the other half of the scholarship is paid after completion of half of the total duration planned for the study. The right of disposal applies to the duration of the study agreed upon or for a maximum of 18 months after the scholarship is awarded.
No appeals allowed
The decision made by the Rune Andersson Scholarship Committee cannot be appealed.
Background

Rune Andersson, alumnus of Chalmers, is the founder of the Rune Andersson Scholarship. During the 1980s, Rune Andersson was the president of the Swedish industrial group Trelleborg, and played a leading role in Swedish business world. Today he works with his family owned business Mellby Gård.
Rune Andersson is one of Sweden’s great philanthropists. During Chalmers’ funding campaign in the 1990s, he made a generous donation. His name was subsequently given to an auditorium, RunAn. The Rune Andersson Scholarship is another way for him to show his gratitude for his education at Chalmers University of Technology. With this scholarship he wants to encourage and inspire former students at Chalmers to contribute to change and development in Sweden and the rest of the world.
