Faster, heavier and more reliable – some solid mechanics challenges for future railways

​Inauguration Lecture - Anders Ekberg
The presentation gives an overview of consequences of the increasing demands on railway transportations from a mechanical point of view. Topics that will be discussed are why railway transportations have superior capacity, why winter problems are as certain as snowfall, and why major accidents still occur.

After graduating from Civil Engineering in 1992, Anders Ekberg worked at the Swedish Rail Administration. In 2000 he received a PhD and in 2005 a docent degree at Chalmers University of Technology. His research concerns mechanical fatigue with a focus on contact fatigue. The main application of the research is in the field of railway mechanics.
