In Sweden research about wind power is carried out mainly within two programs. One is Vindforsk III which focuses on devloping and operating wind farms as well as grid issues. The second program is Vindval which studies the consequences of wind power in respect to a human and preserving of nature perspective. So far no research within construction and production of wind power has been done. This area is now covered by the Swedish Wind Power Technology Centre.

The research is carried out in sixtheme groups that represent construction and operation of wind turbines. The groups are:

Theme group 3 – Mechanical Power Transmission and System Optimisation

Theme group 4 – Structure and Foundation

Theme group 5 - Maintenance and Reliability

Theme group 6 - Cold Climate

 
The academic aim for the Centre is to present:

4 PhD theses after five years work

4 publications per year at international conferences

3 papers per year in international journals
