This is a step-by-step guide on how to apply for a master's programme at Chalmers University of Technology. Submit your application through universityadmissions.se from mid-October until mid-January. The master's programmes at Chalmers commences in the autumn semester only. We look forward to receiving your application!
Chalmers participates in what is called the "First admission round" from October to January only. At universityadmissions.se two application rounds for the autumn semester are published, Chalmers does not participate in the second round from March to April. Also the second admission round must not be confused with what Chalmers refers to as a late application.
Application procedure
The instructions are general and apply to all applicants from other universities in Sweden and worldwide included. For bachelor’s students at Chalmers, there is a separate, local admissions round.

- Read through the entry requirements before applying.
- Submit your online application.
- Pay the application fee, if this applies to you.
- Submit the required documents to your account.
- Check your personal account regularly and read any published notifications.
- If you are a fee-paying applicant, you may separately apply for scholarships.

Entry requirements
To be eligible for master programmes, you must meet the general and specific entry requirements as well as the English language requirements.
General entry requirements
- To fulfil the general entry requirement for a master's programme at Chalmers (at advanced level/the second cycle), the prospective student must hold a degree that is equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor degree (minimum 3years, 180 Swedish higher education credits) in either Science, Engineering, Technology or Architecture.
- All applicants must document their formal academic qualifications to prove their eligibility. Only documentation from internationally recognized universities will be approved by the Swedish Council for Higher Education which manages the website universityadmissions.se.
Specific entry requirements
The programme's specific requirements include fields of study (majors), specific entry requirements such as required courses and in some cases a portfolio or interview. You will find this specified at Master's programmes at Chalmers
English language requirements
For second cycle (master’s programme) the requirement is the Swedish upper secondary course English 6 or the equivalent. Find more information in section 3 of the list of Required documents at this webpage.
Required documents
The list of required documents applies to all applicants, including those with a Swedish personal identity number and/or Swedish citizenship. This list is more extensive than the minimum requirements listed at universityadmissions.se. For your application to be processed, all of the required documents must be submitted at your account at universityadmissions.se or antagning.se by the deadline for supporting documentation. Take note that you will not receive a confirmation of whether you have uploaded the complete set of documents or if they are correct. You have to make sure to follow the instructions.
The documents that are submitted to support the application must be in either Swedish or English. If the original document is issued in another language, then you must also provide an official translation. Official means that your translation must be completed by a translator company or a person who works as a translator.
Do not submit any other documents than the ones listed below. Documents that haven't been requested won’t be considered and will delay the processing of your application.

Selection and admissions results
All students who apply on time and who meet the general and specific entry requirements, compete with one another for the places that are available at Chalmers. Chalmers does not apply a minimum CGPA requirement for our programmes, as admission to Chalmers is subject to place availability and the general overall strength of your application, in addition to fulfilling the entry requirements.
After the notification of selection results
After the admissions selection, the result is posted in your account at universityadmissions.se in the Application section. At this page you will find out what to do next and that admitted students must register online in Ladok.
Late application or reapply
Some master's programmes may still have vacant study places and will therefore open for late applications. You will find the opening day at Key dates.
If you did not make an application on time, search for available alternatives at universityadmissions.se and read about Late application (universityadmissions.se) and the conditions applied by Chalmers below.
If you already applied on time but were rejected, you will find a reapply button next to the programme which have the possibility of reapplication in the 'Application' section of your account. If you were previously rejected, a reapplication will not change your result. Rather you need to find out the reason for the rejection and complement your application with the missing documents or academic merits. In both cases, always check the entry requirements for the programme and prepare a complete application along with all required documentation before you apply. There is no separate documentation deadline when submitting a late application. Eligible applicants will participate in the selection in chronological order, based upon the date of application. There is neither a guarantee of being evaluated nor of being offered a place, even when the application fee has been paid.
