Remote directory sharing

Bakgrund

It is not always easy to remember to put all your files on a portable drive, perhaps there is just no room to bring a portable storage device. Or is there maybe a directory that needs the attention of multiple people at once? Having a common, shared file system that you can access from any computer connected to the Internet would fix these issues and add even more flexibility.

Projekt-/problembeskrivning

The goal is to implement file sharing that would make using and navigating non-local and local files feel the same. This is accomplished by simulating a local drive on the client computer and showing the host’s file system in the drive. Combined with streaming of files on-demand we can simulate native local files. The same application should enable a user to both share file systems from a computer and use remote file systems that are shared by other computers. An important note is that this project is not to create a server. It is a service that is supposed to be able to be used by all computers from all computers as long as they are connected to the Internet.
