As smartphones becomes more common and powerful we have a great opportunity to redefine our habits given the possibilities of todays handheld devices. In the context of education there is an emerging but steadily increasing interest in using e-books instead of traditional books.

Projekt-/problembeskrivning

Goal: To create a stylish, responsive, android based, e-book reader with good support for educational books.

Educational books have a number of needs that are not met by the readers of today, some of which are listed below:

• Support for embeded images. Images today are either too large or too small to see their content. In an educational environment there is a need to zoom in/out and inspect the graphic closely - be it a diagram or a blueprint.
• A plugin system for text modification - enabeling others to add syntax hilighting support for their favorite programming language or just a fun way to personalize your books.
• A fast and intuitive way of checking footnotes and bibliography references.

Naturally, there should be a heavy emfasis on design and usability in the project focused on the challenge of utilizing the small screen size in an efficient and stylish way. If time allows the project could be expanded in several ways, some possible directions could be:

The development of an online storage service for e-books and sync for meta-data such as current page, bookmarks etc.

• Support for drm-protected e-books
• Support for e-lending (library books)
• Facebook integration
• Video support
