Controlling wheel-spin ina Formula Student race carBakgrundFormula Student is the world's largest student engineering competition. The goal is to design, build, test, and race a single-seat formula car in competition with other universities. Chalmers has been successfully campaigning cars in this competition since 2002. Accelerating quickly from a standing start is an important characteristic of a winning car, but is difficult to do reliably. Projekt-/problembeskrivningA "traction control" system is to be implemented that will reduce excessive wheel spin and maximize forward acceleration. This is done by monitoring the speed of the vehicle and controlling engine torque output to maintain an optimal degree of wheel spin. The system could be characterized as having simple analog or digital I/O with an algorithm for closed-loop control of a dynamic system.
