This Division works within some of the most fundamental areas of  Computer Science: logic, algorithms, and language theory. We have close contacts with neighbouring sciences, such as mathematics, biology, and linguistics.

The Division consists of the following research groups:

• Programming Logic: type theory, program verification, functional languages
• Language Technology: natural language processing, compiler tools
• Algorithms and Optimization
• Bioinformatics and Systems Biology

In addition to research, the Division is in charge for a wide variety of courses, both within the Department and for students of other disciplines.

The division has around 20 senior members and 15 PhD students.
