Formation of thin-layer, biopolymer structures for controlled barrier properties

Helene Andersson started as a PhD student during the spring of 2010 and her research interest is biopolymer barriers and structure formation in confined geometries. The aim of the research project is to gain new insights on the correlation between phase separation mechanisms, final structure, surface properties, barrier properties and mechanical properties.

This new knowledge will bring us  one step closer to controlled design of barriers with desired properties. The main studies will be focused on model systems used for applications such as pharmaceutical and paper coatings. With a position at SIK, but research also performed in close collaboration with the department of Pharmaceutical Technology at Chalmers, AstraZeneca and Eka Chemicals this is a close collaboration between academy and industry.
