Industrial Materials Recycling was born in January 2007 through an investment by Stena metall. The research has from the beginning been focused on professor Ekbergs old projects concerning separation and transmutation and newly started projects within battery recycling, primarily NiMH batteries, recovery of precious metals from car catalysts, investigation of defragmentation residues and recycling of spent smoke detectors. Since recycling is an important step in attaining a sustainable society more and more projects will come together within the group. To our disposal we have labscale mixer-settlers and centrifugal contractors. When it is possible a major part of the analysis will be done by radiochemical methods to ensure low detection levels and reliable data. The equipment for this is available through our close collaboration with Nuclear Chemistry.

The research group Industrial Materials Recycling is also a part of Competence Center for Recycling  (CCR).

Industrial Materials Recycling is a part of division Energy and Materials which also includes Chemical Environmental Science , Environmental Inorganic Chemistry, Forest Products and Chemical Engineering and Nuclear Chemistry.
