Education

PLUS informs about plastics for a sustainable society for many reasons and on several levels.

  • PLUS wants to increase the interest among young people about the polymer field. This is done with courses at the University. In the long run, this will contribute to secure the recruitment of young people to the petrochemical industries, primary in Stenungsund, and strengthen the industry in Region Västra Götaland..
  • PLUS provides tailor made courses directed towards the industry as well as towards small- and MEDIUM-sized enterprises. The courses deal with general polymer science, structure-property relationship, and how these relations can control the applications.
  •  PLUS wants to increase the knowledge about plastics through broad information to the public. If you ask people in general about their opinions about plastics you will probably find that a vast majority considers plastics as something bad. Comments such as “plastic litters”, plastic is made from limited resources (oil)” are common. This is a picture that PLUS wants to change!

Besides education and conducting research where the environmental aspects are fundamental, PLUS is also working with lobbying to demonstrate that it is quite possible to produce plastic from bio material sources. The technique is already here and the nature itself contributes with the raw material, for example cellulose from trees and crops! PLUS encourages the possibility that in a few years, we will have profitable plants in Sweden converting ethanol into ethylene, thus providing the plastic industry with renewable raw material.
