Graduate programmes are run at graduate schools that be based at one department or at several departments. A graduate school is led by the department's assistant head of department. The vice head of department has overall responsibility for the department's provision of undergraduate courses.

The department is divided into divisions with several research groups and with a head of division, or into separate research groups led by a research group leader.

All administration comes directly under the department's head of administration.
