Construction Management

Construction Management

The field of Construction Management comprises economic and organisational aspects of construction and real estates activities. Research, which is traditionally carried in close cooperation with industry and the public sector, is currently focused on the following topics.

  • Enterprise Strategy and Business Development deal with the impact of strategic changes for individual companies and the sector as a whole.
  • Communication and Project Organising deal with leadership and information and knowledge management in multi-project organisations.
  • Environmental Management focuses on the management of environmental concerns in organisations and in projects.
  • Quality- and Change Management deal with ways of developing and enhancing organisational activities in project-based firms.
  • Facilities Management focuses on the design and improvement of constructions from a user perspective as well as the organisation of facilities-related services.

Courses in building economics were initiated in 1943 when Lennart Rönnmark, who later became Vice-Chancellor of Chalmers, was recruited from industry. Currently Building Economics and Management provide approximately 15 different course to various engineering programmes, and offer a number of continuation courses for practitioners.
