In the spring of 2004, a general and thorough evaluation was performed of the research, education and organization of the Chalmers Bioscience Program. The evaluation was carried out by a group of international experts headed by Professor Staffan Normark, who was at the time executive director of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, SSF. The evaluation highlighted the success of the program and pointed to areas where further efforts were required. To carefully manage the recommendations of this evaluation and to further strengthen Chalmers' commitment to bioscience, Chalmers Biocenter was instated by the President on January 1st 2005.
