In a sustainable society there is a growing need for lightweight materials or lightweight constructions. There are numerous examples of this; reduced weights of automotives in order to lower fuel consumptions and emissions, lightweight packaging is beneficial with regard to transportation and so on. In this seminar, different aspects on lightweight materials and constructions as well as their manufacturing and applications are highlighted. The lecturers come both from academia and industry and cover together a wide range of materials like plastics, metals, textiles, composites, foams and ceramics.
