VeraVera was originally designed and built for the 2007 Shell Ecomarathon Competition held in Nogaro, France. The car was Chalmers’ second car to compete in this yearly event. As its predecessor, the car has been built according to the Shell Ecomarathon rules for the prototype class using an internal combustion engine for propulsion. The design focus of the car was to keep aerodynamic drag and vehicle weight as low as possible without sacrificing safety and structural rigidity. The construction is a full carbon fibre frame encased in a carbon fibre aerodynamic shaped shell. The vehicle has three wheels and a four-stroke gasoline powered engine. The complete car has a total weight below 30kg which makes it one of the lightest cars in the competition. Currently the car holds the Swedish fuel efficiency record of 1243 km per litre of gasoline, which was set last year at the 2009 Shell Ecomarathon competition in Lausitz. Vera will be competing for the fifth time at the Eurospeedway in Lausitz at the 2011 Shell Ecomarathon competition, aiming to further reduce its fuel consumption and increase the Swedish record.
