Smarter

Short facts about Smarter

The vehicle body is made of a carbon fiber composite. This makes the chassis very light and strong. In fact, Smarter was one of the lightest vehicles in her class at the competition in Germany 2009. Smarter is a series hybrid vehicle. This means that the wheels are driven by an electric motor, which draws its power from an energy source on board. This energy source is charged with two electric generators which are driven by a gasoline powered internal combustion engine. The engine is a 35cc naturally aspirated air-cooled four stroke engine.

This vehicle has been retired due to rule changes for the 2012 competition.

About the UrbanConcept group

Unlike Prototype vehicles, all Urban Concept cars must meet a series of roadworthiness criteria found in modern passenger vehicles (such as having four wheels, a steering wheel, head and tail lights, a brake pedal, doors, etc.). In the rules for Shell Eco Marathon article 46 says: “All authorized types of energy for prototypes are also permitted for UrbanConcept vehicles. In addition, the use of hybrid technology is also allowed for the UrbanConsept Group.
