History

At Chalmers it all started when Professors Ingemar Denbratt and Sven Andersson were invited to visit the competition at Nogaro in 2005. The competition was immediately seen as a perfect complement to the ongoing project Chalmers Formula Student. Not everyone are interested in racecars but would be helped in their education if they could participate in a design-build-test project.

So the next year (2005-06) Chalmers EcoMarathon started. This year a prototype was built since we considered that to be a simpler task than an Urban Concept. If that is true or not, however, can be questioned. Project leader was Lasse Christoffersen, a student from Denmark with experience in RC cars and Chalmers Formula Student.

At the competition we realized that it was not that easy to complete a race, and definitely not to be competitive. Many teams had spent several years and (in some cases) several millions and it was clear that we would have to wait a few years before we could expect to be among the best.
