Triangular-based Road Model for Vehicle Dynamics simulation (Modelon)

The Vehicle Dynamics Library (VDL) is a Dymola-based Modelon solution for simulation of road vehicle dynamics. In vehicle dynamics simulation it is of vital importance to have a good representation of road characteristics, such as geometry, roughness, friction, and visualization. One way to represent the ground surface is based on a grid that defines each segment of the surface as a triangle. An advantage with this representation is that it has very much in common with computer graphics and there is much work being done on the required algorithms. As a result, the format is commonly adapted within the gaming and simulator industry. The scope of this thesis work is to interface Dymola to a triangular ground format and to implement the corresponding VDL road models.

Student profile: One or two highly motivated and skilled students with interest in simulators, computer algebra, and programming (Modelica and C).
