Karin Brolin är avdelningschef för avdelningen för Fordonssäkerhet och forskare i gruppen Personskadeprevention. Karins forskningfokus är Human Body Models (HBM) med syfte att förbättra aktiv och passiv krocksäkerhet.

Karin Brolin disputerade med avhandlingen Cervial Spine Injuries - Numerical Analyses and Statistical Survey på Institutionen för flygteknik, KTH, 2002. Karin fortsatte sedan att vidareutveckla den finita elementmodell av nacken hon hade tagit fram under sina doktorandstudier för att forska bland annat kring hur risken för nackskador påverkas av pilotens hjälm, dess tyngdpunkt, massa och extra utrustning i ett projekt finansierat av US Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory.
