Chalmers University of Technology has an open position as senior lecturer/associate professor in engineering education research. The position is a full time tenure appointment. The position will be placed at the Department of Applied Information Technology, which is a joint department between Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. Profile Research into learning and communication is one specific strand of research at the department and the main areas of investigation are: Learning with IT, language and communication for academic and professional purposes, public learning and understanding of science, learning and sustainability, and higher education. This variation in research areas related to learning and communication is one of the department’s main strengths. The department also offers training in these areas to students and teachers at both Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg. Engineering education research (EER) is an area under development at the department and a graduate school in engineering education research was recently initiated by Chalmers and placed at the department. We now seek candidates with a strong interest and documented background in engineering education research who can contribute to the department’s research and teaching in the area, and to the overall vision of the university: Chalmers - for a sustainable future.
Job description
It is expected that the successful candidate will play a key role in conducting research and supervising PhD students in the broad area of engineering education. The central aim of the research is to strengthen the teaching and learning of core subjects in engineering education at the undergraduate level. Teaching duties include a variety of staff development courses in pedagogy and graduate level courses in engineering education research. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in education and training of teachers in upper secondary school and in providing pedagogical support to individual teachers and other functions at the university.

In addition, it is required that the candidate has completed a Diploma of Higher Education or has acquired equivalent knowledge and experience in another way. Teaching experience at university level is expected, preferably in engineering education. Candidates with experience of giving staff development courses in pedagogy have an added advantage. Most courses are given in English and consequently a high level of English proficiency is a requirement for the job. English is our working language for research. Both Swedish and English are used in undergraduate courses, while graduate courses are taught in English. The applicant is recommended to learn Swedish within a few years.
