Policy for the distribution of information via the World Wide Webse also Responsibility for the use of Chalmers' computers and computer network resources GeneralChalmers makes extensive use of the World Wide Web (www) as an information medium. The information distributed via computers linked to the Chalmers computer network is an integral part of Chalmers' public image and the quality and content are crucial to how Chalmers is perceived externally. A fundamental task of universities and colleges is to promote free and open debate and a free exchange of thoughts, ideas and other information and as part of this Chalmers would like to give all its employees and students the opportunity to publish their own www pages. The distribution and receipt of information should take place within the framework of the laws that exist in society and the rules in place at Chalmers. To ensure that information presented according to the above is not perceived as having been examined or approved by Chalmers, it is important to distinguish it clearly from the University's official documents.
Information via wwwThere are two types of www pages at Chalmers:
All pages should comply with this policy. The distribution of information via computers linked to the Chalmers computer network should also comply with current laws and rules as well as the ethical rules for SUNET and acceptable use policy of SUNET.
Rules for official www pagesIn the case of official www pages, the information should conform to the Chalmers graphic profile. The department's (or equivalent) homepage should be in Swedish and English. Other official pages should be in at least one of these languages and it is desirable that as much information as possible is presented in both languages. Documents in English should be proof-read before being published. Good Swedish should be used. If information is presented on several pages, clear references should be given to these pages. Before a page is published, a check should be made to ensure that "links" are working and that the page contains correct, up-to-date information. An information officer should be appointed at each school/department. The following may be published on the Chalmers official www pages:
Each page should contain the following information:
The director of public relations bears overall responsibility for official www pages. The person usually responsible for activities at a school or department/equivalent, normally the dean or head of department/person in charge, is responsible for ensuring compliance with the rules. The Public Relations and Press Office is involved in an advisory capacity.
Rules for unofficial www pagesBeing allowed to publish unofficial www pages is subject to certain rules. When making a collective and objective assessment, consideration must be given to whether the pages could be felt to have a negative impact on the work being done at Chalmers and/or harm the good name and reputation of Chalmers.
Liability and authorityChalmers is responsible for computer resources - including web servers - and their content, which are used by and provided for the benefit of employees and students. The dean should work actively to ensure compliance with the web policy. Operative responsibility for the content of the website rests with each webmaster.
